Who are the Oregon Rip City Riders? The Oregon Rip City Riders was started by Jeff “Lefty” Bush in the fall of 2007. Lefty was a part of the California Rip City Riders located in Petaluma, prior to starting the group in the Klamath Falls area. The Rip City Riders are not a motorcycle club nor do they search out people to become members. Simply stated, the Rip City Riders are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who want to help their community and show that the sometimes negative perception of motorcycle riders is not accurate. Lefty hopes not only to change the local perception of motorcycle riders but to see Klamath Falls grow in a positive direction. To do this the Rip City Riders not only host local motorcycle events that bring individuals with similar interests together; but they organize fundraisers that benefit worthwhile organizations in their community. Since its inception, Oregon Rip City Riders has begun successfully raising funds for worthwhile organizations in their community who need financial assistance. The first Rip City Riders fundraising event is being held on July 12, 2008 to benefit the S.M.A.R.T (Start Making A Reader Today) program. “S.M.A.R.T partners with hundreds of schools statewide to deliver proven literacy support to K-3 children. Participating children also receive new books each month to keep and read with their families.” Their vision is that every child can read and is empowered to succeed (http://getsmartoregon.org). The Rip City Riders are extremely proud of the progress they’ve made in bringing their community together to benefit this program. Each year the Rip City Riders will plan to host 2 fundraising events. The Rip City Riders invite local organizations who need financial assistance to apply for a fundraising event to assist their cause. If you have a local organization who you feel is valuable to the community but could benefit from a additional funds, write to the Rip City Riders, P.O. Box 404, Keno Oregon 97623 and describe your cause. The Oregon Rip City Riders are proud to support the community of Klamath Falls and appreciate all of the sponsors who are assisting their fundraising efforts.
How do I become a Rip City Rider? Sponsorship of an existing member is required to introduce new members to the Organization. Sponsors will be accountable for the prospective member during the probationary period of 6 months minimum to 12 months maximum. The prospective member must participate in the required events and group activities before new membership will be voted on by the Organization members. Membership may be granted by the Board to any individual that supports the mission and purposes of the organization. It is the general feeling of those in the organization that we do not solicit members, we absorb friends.
