Save the date! From Friday, July 8 to Sunday July 10, 2011 the Rip City Riders are proud to be raising funds for .... Klamath Stop the Hurt Coalition.
Brief description of the organization:
The Klamath County Stop the Hurt Coalition is a community-wide collaboration whose goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect through awareness, advocacy and education. Many agencies concerned about protecting children are joining together in this campaign:

Citizens for Safe Schools
Klamath County Commission on Children and Families
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Klamath County
Integral Youth Services
Klamath Child Abuse Prevention
Klamath Crisis Center / Marta’s House
Klamath County Commissioners
Klamath County Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office
Klamath Falls Police Department
Klamath Youth Development Center
Lutheran Community Services
Oregon Department of Human Services, Child Protective Services
How does the organization help the Klamath Basin?
In Klamath County, 25 of every 1,000 children are abused---a shocking rate that is twice the state and national averages. And the rate continues to increase. In 2009, 267 children were evaluated for potential abuse. Between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010, 279 suspected victims were examined. The Klamath County Stop the Hurt Coalition leads a community-wide collaboration to prevent child abuse and neglect through awareness, advocacy and education.
Will the funds from this event be used locally and for what purpose?
Stop The Hurt has set a goal to raise $48,000 for the first year of the campaign. Media partners will triple our funds with a 3:1 match. All funds will be used locally to help fund a multimedia public awareness campaign to help children, parents and communities know what child abuse is, and how to stop it or prevent it from ever occurring. Initial messages will focus on awareness, then shift in 2011 to changing behaviors with targeted messages such as:
· Child abuse is a hidden secret; it is widespread…and it can be prevented.
· Children have a right to be safe…and there are safe places to talk about abuse.
· Anger is a feeling; violence is a choice…and there are alternatives.
Join our fight to prevent child abuse in our community by becoming a sponsor of this event. For more information about the coalition, log onto www.klamathstopthehurt.org or contact the Rip City Riders at 541-882-5123.
